Year-Round Strength & Speed: Taking the Next Step
#2 - Strength & Speed Coaching - Pursuing Your Best ⚡️
Hey everyone, Preston here—welcome back to Pursuit PE! If you caught our first post, you know that I’m on a mission to help coaches and educators make Strength & Speed training a true cornerstone of their Physical Education programs.
A Quick Recap
Last time, we talked about the importance of having a well-rounded Strength & Speed program in your school. I also shared a free guide that walks through the five essentials of building a successful year-round program:
Secure Administrative Support
Integrate Strength & Speed Into the School Day
Rally Sport Coaches & Foster Collaboration
Promote a School-Wide Culture of Strength & Speed
Build a Year-Round Training Schedule
If you haven’t checked out that guide yet, you can still download it here. It’s packed with practical tips to help you get started.
Diving Deeper: How to Put These Tips into Action
Let’s highlight a few of the most critical points from the guide and see what real-world application might look like:
Administrative Buy-In is Non-Negotiable
Show them the benefits: from boosted student health to improved academic performance.
When you invite your administration to a training session and ask them to imagine it as a physical education class, they’ll automatically see the value that would be provided to all students interested in Strength & speed if it were offered during the school day.
Take Action: Invite your principal or AD to watch a short training session so they can see the impact firsthand.
Making It Part of the School Day
This is the biggest game-changer. Students have to be in school, so why not capitalize on that time?
By embedding Strength & Speed into PE class, coaches don’t have to sacrifice practice time, and kids don’t have to wake up at 5 a.m. to lift.
Take Action: If you can’t do it every day, start small—maybe two days a week or every other day—and gradually build up.
Here is an article that explains some more of the benefits:

Unified Vision with Sport Coaches
Regular communication is key. Check in weekly (or monthly) with each coach to align Strength & Speed goals with in-season or off-season demands.
It builds trust—once they see how it benefits their teams, they’ll be your greatest advocates.
Pro Tip: Offer to show sport coaches how you track progress so they can see tangible athlete development.
